The Mysterious Draw of Castle

I love when I have a eureka moment!  In 2009 I started watching a new series, Castle.  I was undecided for a couple of episodes because I typically have a problem with the implausible (although I’m a huge Walking Dead fan…go figure).  Castle is a mystery novelist granted permission to tag along with NYPD to crime scenes in the name of story research.  A bit unrealistic.  In my mind anyway.  But something held me – I kept watching.  Not religiously, but I’ve probably watched two-thirds of the five seasons. Also, I’ve never been a fan of cop shows.  Never watched

One Room at a Time – Dining

When I moved back to the condo, the dining room was sporting the same pale gray, Manhattan Mist to be exact, as the living room and kitchen.  Not bad, but I thought I could do better.  The white wainscoting deserved more contrast on top.  Here’s what I had to start with: Manhattan Mist was fine but didn’t do the white wainscoting justice. The first step was to paint an almost black like I had before I moved out two years ago.  I love the black and white, and this little dining area is the perfect place to go bold for

Why Rescue?

Where to begin? First, I’m a sucker for the underdog.  It’s tough, I mean really tough, to turn my back on an animal in need.  Dogs, cats, any shelter animal really, are struggling to beat the odds.  Shelters have a finite amount of space and resources.  It doesn’t take a whole lot of grey matter to do the math.  But, when you adopt one furry friend from a shelter or rescue group, you actually save two lives – the one you adopted and the one you just made space for at the shelter.  Super bonus.  If you’re not in a

The Down-Side of Clean Eating

I’ve been yapping about clean eating for about a year, and I can’t say enough about it.  My energy level is up, I sleep better, and I assume those are both a result of better health in general.  So what’s the problem?  I fell off the wagon this weekend.  Woe is me. If you’ve spent any time with me, you know I eat, and I eat often.  Before the clean eating, I enjoyed a fairly disgusting diet.  Fast food, endless amounts of sugar, and greasy everything.  If it was breaded and deep-fried, it was on my plate; if it was

Product Review – Bass Egg Bluetooth Speaker

And then there was music! Since I moved to my condo I haven’t had anything to play my music other than my iPad, which pretty much sounds like the Toot-a-Loop AM radio I had circa 1974, so for the better part of six months I’ve been wandering aimlessly (shambling on Sunday nights), looking for a small wireless speaker. I wasn’t pounding the pavement, but I just never happened upon anything that fit all my criteria: Cost ($100 was about my limit) Size (can I throw it in my purse?) Aesthetics (I sometimes get hung up on how things look. Okay,
