Unleashed Spring Fling

It’s a gorgeous day in NC, so I took Miss Grace to the Spring Fling at the State Fairgrounds sponsored by Unleashed. It was their first off-site event complete with a scavenger hunt, a doggie Easter egg hunt, local vendors, a photographer, and a groomer for nail trims. Full disclosure: I was skeptical about the doggie Easter egg hunt. Doesn’t that sound like it could be complete mayhem? Not to worry, it was all great! Grace sniffed and I shopped. Grace got a flower from Pits & Posh to wear on her collar… and a new Hurley from Unleashed to

Book Review – “The Author Training Manual”

“The Author Training Manual” by Nina Amir is a detailed, well thought-out and comprehensive guide to get you from wanting to write a book to actually being published. The book is divided into three sections: Manual, Sample, and Training. The Manual section is further broken into 12 chapters taking you step-by-step through the author training process. The Manual section is the bulk of the book, and it facilitates the development of what Amir refers to as an author attitude, looking at your idea and your writing objectively, and creating a polished business plan and book proposal ready for submission. How Does Your Garden Grow?

Spring has finally sprung in NC, and let’s hope there are no take-backs this time. I’ve been in the mood to garden for years and really miss having that little patch of ground to throw seeds at. Way back in the day I grew tomatoes, corn, green beans, and cukes and did fairly well. Now that I own from the studs-in only – no dirt to speak of – I’m restricted to pot gardening out on the deck. I did a little bit of that several years ago and got just a couple of tomatoes (literally, two tomatoes), and some

SPCA K9-3K Dog Walk 2014

Today was the annual K9-3K Dog Walk to benefit the SPCA of Wake County, and sadly, the forecast was showers. We lucked out because it let up from a downpour to a steady, light rain. It was enough to get Grace in her rain jacket and me in two jackets and a hat. Umbrella to share. We were quite a pair. It was Grace’s first K9-3K and she was beside herself in the midst of so many pups – she loves other dogs. It was a circuit of wagging and sniffing and wagging and sniffing. And she did great. Not

UPDATES: Pink Fuzzy and the Westpaw Hurley

We have established that Grace is pretty tough on chew toys. She is the very definition of power chewer. See here the various and sundry items she has destroyed in a matter of seconds, including the indestructible Westpaw Bumi. Westpaw honored their guaranty and replaced it with their Hurley (tougher than the Bumi). That was around January 1. UPDATE: it took over 4 months, but she finally broke the Hurley. Time was not on Hurley’s side. I’m impressed that it lasted 4 months and still give Westpaw a high rating on their toys – I’ll buy more for sure since nothing else has lasted nearly that long. It
