Is Your Dog a Power Chewer? Steer Clear of the Kong Traxx

After work I stopped to buy dog food, and I always get sidetracked either to the coats and sweaters or the toys. Today it was the toys. Since Grace has so few of them, I’m always on the lookout for something she can sink her teeth into…or rather not.

She’s a power chewer, and right on the Kong Traxx packaging it reads “Power Chewers” and “Toughest Durable Formula.” Grace has a red Kong Classic toy which is not holding up very well. A friend suggested the black Kong Extreme toy which is for the power chewers. The Kong Traxx is listed in the same “Extreme Rubber Toys” category as the Kong Extreme toy, so we should be good, right? No Ma’am.

Grace had this toy for less than 10 minutes and was able to bite a piece off of it. The tire design has a lot of texture, so it’s actually easier for her to get a grip on it when chewing. I’ll try the Kong Extreme toy instead and see if the smooth, round surface doesn’t give her more of a challenge.

Less than 10 minutes.

I like the Kong products in general, but if you really have a power chewer, I wouldn’t recommend the Kong Traxx. I’ll let you know how the Extreme holds up.
