Mascara Reviews of Almay, Tarte, and L’Oreal

Finding the perfect mascara is like finding a great hairstylist, which is a lot like dating–it takes time to find your perfect match. But, not only do I have a hairstylist I adore, I’ve found a mascara that I’m pretty fond of as well. Here are my mascara reviews of Almay, Tarte, and L’Oreal.

4 РAlmay Thickening Mascara

There are a lot of positives to this mascara, it’s just not my top pick. With that said, Almay’s Thickening Mascara is pretty darn good.

What I like:
Fragrance free, hypoallergenic, ophthalmologist tested (safety first); is infused with aloe and vitamin B5 (sounds lovely); and comes in regular and waterproof (the regular seems to be waterproof).

Room for improvement:
It is difficult to remove with gentle facial cleanser, which is a deal breaker for me. If Almay were to correct that aspect, this would be one of my faves!

3 – Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara

Tarte’s LCL is vegan which is always a plus, as is Tarte’s reputation. So far I have only tried Tarte’s Shape Tape (phenomenal) and this mascara.

What I like:
Rice bran, olive esters & provitamin B5 help soften & nourish lashes
Free of parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate, and gluten. It lengthens, curls, volumizes, and conditions (this is the “4-in-1” reference).

Room for improvement:
I experienced a bit of smudge and flaking. Also, it does not easily wash off. I like a full face of makeup, but I don’t want a lot of products and that includes cleansers. Needing eye makeup remover to remove mascara is not my thing. If my gentle face cleanser can’t do it, then it’s a no-go.

2 – L’Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes

This is not your mother’s mascara. It’s different in that the tube contains a brush on each end, one being a nourishing base coat and the other end being the top coat that forms tubes around your lashes. Color me skeptical yet pleasantly surprised!

What I like:
Washes off easily with warm water (yes!); does not smudge – always a welcome quality; ophthalmologist and allergy tested, suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers (I value safer beauty products).

Room for improvement:
While it gives the look of longer lashes, it did nothing for thickness or volume. As I get older I’m losing lashes, so having more volume would have made this my top pick.

1 – L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara

This one rang all the bells for me! It does all the things I need it to do with just one tiny drawback, but for all the perks I get with it, I can deal.

What I like:
Lengthens and volumizes (this is what we all want, right?); washes off easily with gentle facial cleanser. Sold!

Room for improvement:
While it is technically no smudge, it does transfer a bit before it dries. If you can, don’t blink until it dries and you’re gold. Otherwise, have a Q-tip handy for clean-up.

I try new mascaras fairly often, so look for more of this in future blog posts. If you found these mascara reviews to be helpful, please leave a comment or share this with someone who might also find value in it. Comments and Shares are LIFE to bloggers!
