Reduce Plastic with Your Soap

Want to reduce the amount of plastic you bring into your home and put into the environment? I’ve found a few products that fit the bill, and one of them helps you reduce plastic with your soap. Yep, foaming hand soap tablets that are packaged in paper and shipped in cardboard. Did I mention the reusable dispenser is glass? Can I get a woot woot!

Why reduce plastic? Did you know that 14 BILLION pounds of our trash is dumped into the ocean each year? It’s breaking down into tiny pieces of plastic and is now showing up in our food and water supply. This doesn’t sound good to me.

So I’ve been making small changes, and I found Blueland brand plastic-free foaming hand soap and I love it! I’ve tried a couple of brands of plastic-free laundry detergent too–more on those in another post.

Here’s how you can reduce plastic with your soap. Place an order with Blueland for a Hand Soap Starter Set which includes a glass bottle with a pump dispenser (yes the pump is plastic but you’ll reuse it forever, or a really long time), and three foaming soap tablets. It will be mailed to you in recyclable cardboard, and as far as ingredients: no triclosan, parabens, or phthalates.

you can purchase individually wrapped soap tabs in packs of 3, 6 or 9

You fill the glass bottle with hot water (tap water, not boiling water) to the line, drop in one tab, attach the pump dispenser, and voila! You have foaming hand soap! The scents are lovely. I’ve tried the Iris Agave, Lavender Eucalyptus, and Perrine Lemon. Love them!

It’s one thing we can do to make a huge impact on the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills and in our oceans. Of course we need plastic–just think about the medical field. Plastic is here to stay and in many cases for good reason, but the single-use, for convenience only things–we have the power to easily do something about that. I mean, if you can reduce plastic with your soap, why wouldn’t you?

This is not an ad, I am not affiliated with Blueland. I simply want to make a difference, found this product and tried it, and am sharing with y’all. I hope it helps you make the decision to add less to the 8 billion tons of plastic trash that already exists and will be on the planet forever.

I’ll share the laundry soaps soon, and for a plastic-free toothpaste replacement, see this post about Bite Bits. Come save the planet with me!
