Product Review: Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup

My go-to makeup for the past couple of years has been Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup. It’s not listed in the Skin Deep┬ádatabase, but other Lauder products are listed and most have a higher score than I prefer (low is good; high is bad).

This makeup really does what the name says and stays on all day. It has a matte finish, and it worked better for me when my skin was considered normal. Since the hormone snafu, my face is more combination, which may be why this product now looks pasty on me. These photos don’t show it, but it seems to highlight my pores and make them look even bigger. It didn’t do that prior to the acne/skin change debacle.

Here are the before and after shots.

The only thing on my skin in the after shot is the makeup – no concealer, blush, or finishing powder. It provides great coverage, but if you’re not used to wearing a full face of liquid makeup, this may feel a little heavy. I definitely have an awareness that there is something on my face, although it feels smooth to the touch and is not sticky.

So here’s how it all shakes out for the Estee Lauder Double Wear:

  • Skin Deep Score – unknown
  • How it Wears – feels a little heavy but not sticky; has a matte finish and feels smooth; makes my pores more pronounced
  • Coverage – great coverage and stays on all day (and I’m a face toucher – a big no-no)
  • Cost – $37 for 1 ounce

Overall, it delivers on its claim to be long-wearing and provides great coverage. I would not say it delivers on the claim of feeling lightweight. It may work for someone with a different skin type, but for my combination skin, I need something else. I can’t be looking so porous!
