Product Review: Aveda Mineral Tinted Moisture Oil-Free Lotion

I’ve heard good things about Aveda products, so I decided to give them a try. Although the Mineral Tinted Moisture Oil-Free Lotion is not in the Skin Deep database, the Aveda website states that it’s formulated without parabens. I like that.

This product has an SPF of 15, and¬†also claims to be lightweight and that it gives a smooth, even finish. I applied a lot of product before I felt like I had any coverage at all. It does feel lightweight, but it has a very sticky feel to it. I can’t run my hand across my face without my fingers sticking.

In the after shot I’m wearing the Tinted Moisture Oil-Free Lotion only. There is no blush, concealer, or finishing powder. This product doesn’t provide much coverage at all. I definitely want to wear a concealer with it, and within a couple of hours my face is very oily.

Here’s my word on the Aveda Mineral Tinted Moisture Oil-Free Lotion:

  • Skin Deep Score – unknown; but the product is formulated without parabens
  • How it Wears – lightweight; very sticky to the touch; my face was oily within a couple of hours
  • Coverage – provides little coverage; SPF 15
  • Cost – $28 for 1.7 ounces

This product claims to provide sheer coverage for a dewy finish, but what I got was nearly no coverage with an oily finish. This may be better suited to someone with normal, clear skin who wants a barely-tinted moisturizer. It wasn’t up to the challenge of my combination skin with acne. This is not the product for me, but Aveda scores great on customer service – I emailed them on Sunday afternoon and within the hour they replied and said they would refund my purchase, no questions asked. Now that’s refreshing.
